Here at The Urban Dentist, we welcome families with young children. Our philosophy is to work patiently with each child, and not force them to do anything that they do not want to. We take our time explaining each step of the procedure to minimize the fear of the unknown and we try our best to be encouraging. Should the child be too fearful or uncooperative, we will happily help your family find a specialist to address your child’s needs.
We encourage bringing your toddlers with you to the dentist so that they become accustomed to the sights and sounds of the dental office before we ever even do our first exam. We can start building their trust this way by having the toddlers watch their parent have dental care, reassuring them that there is nothing to fear.
The American Dental Association recommends that a child’s first dental visit occur before their first birthday. Tooth decay can occur as soon as teeth erupt. Decay can lead to pain and infection that not only affects the baby teeth, but may also affect the adult teeth that are growing underneath. It’s never too early to teach your children the value of good oral health.
